Storm chaos forces closures around Bondi Beach
Following significant rainfall last night, Waverley Council has closed beaches and parts of the coastal walk today.
In the Waverley Local Government Area (LGA), safety measures have been taken, including the closure of parts of the coastal walk between Bondi Beach and Marks Park, Tamarama, due to a rock slip, with barricades and temporary fencing erected. The public is strongly advised against entering these areas. Additionally, crews are actively addressing issues caused by fallen trees in various locations.
An image captured overnight by Council officers shows the rock slip beneath Marks Park, leading to the closure of this section of the coastal walk. The Council is also conducting ongoing inspections of other parks and reserves, recommending that outdoor activities be postponed until the weather conditions improve.
A hazardous surf warning is currently in effect and for safety reasons, Bronte and Tamarama beaches are not open for swimming, with only one set of flags displayed at Bondi Beach. Moreover, the Bronte ocean pool is closed due to dangerous surf conditions. Waverley Council lifeguards are advising against beach visits today and emphasise the importance of heeding all safety signs and lifeguard instructions.
