An insider’s guide to finding a carpark at Bondi Beach
Finding a car park near Bondi Beach can be challenging, especially during peak times or sunny weekends. However, there are several options available. Be mindful that parking inspectors are everywhere and fines are hefty so ignore parking restrictions at your own risk.
Free parking:
If you don’t mind a 5-7 minute walk to the beach you can find 24-hour free parking at Bondi in the streets north of Blair St. Parking here on weekdays is easy to find up until about 6pm when residents return from work and the fight begins for a parking spot. On weekends it can get busy but if you’re planning on spending the day at the beach then this will be your best option.
Paid parking:
Bondi Beach Parking Station (Queen Elizabeth Drive): Located on Queen Elizabeth Drive, this is the largest and closest car park to the beach. It offers both short-term and long-term parking, but it fills up quickly, so arrive early if you want to secure a spot.
Wilson Parking, The Hub Shopping Centre 61/79 Hall St, Bondi Beach NSW 2026. This is an often forgotten option for visitors to Bondi and while you will need to fork out big bucks to park here it’s a great option on a busy day for an hour or two.
The Pacific Bondi Car Park is conveniently located directly opposite the Bondi Pavilion, providing easy beach access with just a two-minute walk. It operates daily from 5:30 AM to 12:30 AM, catering to both early risers and late-night visitors. Parking rates start with a free 30-minute period and increase for longer durations, but discounts are offered for online bookings. Although Early Bird parking is no longer available, the car park offers a cheaper night rate and a pre-bookable Flexi Saver option for added flexibility.
Park Avenue (North Bondi): Located a short walk from the beach, this car park offers a good number of parking spaces. However, it can also fill up quickly during peak times.
Street parking: There is limited street parking available in the residential areas surrounding Bondi Beach. Be sure to check the parking signs for time limits and restrictions, as many streets have residential parking permit zones or timed parking limits.
Paid parking apps: Consider using a parking app, like Parkopedia or Wilson Parking, to find available car parks and reserve a spot in advance. These apps can help you locate both private and public parking options in the area.
Beach parking costs:
Beach parking is $7.60/hr between 8am to 7pm and $4.60/hr after 7pm. Street-parking near the shops is $5.40/hr. There are also time limits which you can find marked on street signs.
Where to park on particularly busy days:
On a perfect summer’s day or public holiday trying to find a park can induce a rage that you didn’t know you had in you. Resist the temptation to park across someone’s driveway - or face a fine of around $500 - and give these spots a go.
South Bondi - Edward St & Francis St and surrounds. This are tends to be one of the luckiest on a busy day. With many people heading into the heart of Bondi, pulling into these back streets can yield results.
Beach Road Hotel - The streets around the Beach Rd Hotel are always busy but don’t tend to attract the beachgoers in the same numbers as some of the other streets closer to the beach.
North of Blair St - North Bondi is notoriously the hardest place to find a park but once you pass Blair St, heading away from the beach, spots are more likely to become available and importantly are free and unrestricted.
Bondi Parking Rangers:
For locals who have issues with illegal parking, such as having a vehicle block your driveway or access to your property, you can contact Waverley Council parking rangers directly their their app here or by calling 9083 8000. Rangers will come to your location and issue a fine to the offending vehicle but have no further power. Once this is done you can contact the police who may call the owner of the vehicle asking them to move.
